Dishonored 2 - Tips For an Aspiring Assassin

Dishonored 2 is here! If you're having some trouble figuring out what all the fuss is about or can't tell your fundamental from your folding sword, my tips will soon have you flitting yon and hiuther. If this is your first Dishonored game, it's worthwhile playing the tutorial available from the menu, which will teach you how to chain movements, basics of combat and stealth, and all the controls, of course.

Don't Give Up Like the original Dishonored game, Dishonored 2 doesn't give you your full signature and potential power until you've finished the first mission. This can be a little frustrating as it means you may have to spend about an hour exploring and learning without even taking a glimpse of the real game and its potential. So here's an advice: Don't worry too much about it. Just get it done. Get out of the tower, go to the ship and learn your first ability. The initial missions is a great way to learn the basics of the sightline-based stealth mechanic. But if you're not having any fun by then you should get to the better parts as soon as possible.

Ghosting, Chaos and "Pure" Stealth You might be tempted to get perfect assessments at the end of each level, but really - save it for a second playthrough. Once you get to know the level layouts, understand the AI and stealth, and have powers that you need, you can go for hours without alerting any guards. However, at the start - don't worry too much about it, it's okay to get caught a few times.

Mana Regen

Health and mana don't usually regen in Dishonored 2, and recovery items are quite limited. So it's quite possible to end up in a lot of trouble - having used all the level's consumables and having nothing to continue with. You can avoid this scenario by hazarding your resources, including your mana. You'll notice that after you use Far Reach or Blind, the mana bar will refill as long as you don't use an ability the next few seconds. This is really important to understand, so you can use these abilities an unlimited number of times - given you don't spam them.

Quick Save and Quick Load This steam game is very generous with manual save management. You get three campaign slots, and each can host a whole stack of save files marked by current chaos level and mission. Make several manual saves at key points like the beginning and end of new zones and missions. However, you don't have to pay attention to that while you're playing, as quick save and load are amazing tools for the merry save scummers. Not sure whether you can survive a drop? - Quick save. Not sure what's going to happen if you press that interact button? - Quick save.
